Splints - For Support and Healing

Injuries to the lower limbs of small animals frequently need to be splinted or braced.
These Leg Splints are modeled after the human splints for lower leg, ankle and foot injuries. For orthotic and prosthetic devices, see K9Brace.com

  • Wide range of sizes to cover all types of animals.
  • Product has a professional look versus homemade splints.
  • Back-leg splints extend above hock.
  • Front leg extends to just below elbow.
  • Both extend completely under the foot.
  • Patient comfort: splint allows animals to move about with ease and comfort.
  • Splint can be heated and flared with a heat gun.
  • Can be custom designed to encourage movement in one or more planes yet limit or restrict movement in others.

The splints come in a range of sizes, X-Small to X-Large to cover most breeds. A Feline size is also available. Each size of splint offers a Front and Rear edition. The Rear leg splints extend up over the hock andd the Front leg splints extend part way up the Forearm. Both extend completely under the foot.

Wearing Schedule:
  • OrthoVet Splints should not be left on the animal for long periods of time.
  • Never leave the animal unsupervised with the splint on.
  • Introduce the splint slowly when fitting for the first several times, 2 hours on - 2 hours off. Remove the splint at night when animal is quiet.

Provides extra support for fractures of the lower limb.
Reduces the costs associated with bandaging, degloving injuries and casting.
Provides easy access for daily wound therapy.
Lightweight construction increases patient tolerance.

(Apologies to very small dogs who might be offended by wearing a 'feline' size. We know you're not a cat.)

  1. My dog has a rear limb Knee problem (ACL or Patella). Will a Splint work for my dog?
No, splints will support the lower limb for the animal but will not go high enough to support the knee on the dog. Click http://www.K9brace.com for a possible alternative.
  2. My dog seems to fall in-between sizes in your chart, should I order the larger size?
Splints are a standard size splint and will not conform to every contour of the animals limb. If the measurement is not right on try using the weight information on the sizing chart. If there is still questions, please give us a call at 866-207-9205.
  3. Do you make any other splints or braces for larger animals?
We have done some custom bracing for larger animals but usually refer people to our links page to www.equinebrace.com.
  4. Can I change or remold the splint with heat?
Yes, you can heat and Flair the plastic away from a problem area but you can not change the angle of the splint. You will need a Heat Gun to do any modifications and we always recommend you call before you try altering the splints.
  5. Does the splint have any tred or soling on the bottom so the dog will not slip?
Yes, the splints have a non-skid soling surface on the bottom.
  6. Do the splints have any padding inside and can it be cleaned?
Yes, the splints are fully lined with a closed cell foam that can be washed.
